Making great music is the dream of all aspiring musicians. David Rodriguez had been playing for years in several San Antonio bands including Kilgore Trout and Blue Bonnet Plague. He met Gil Polanco in 1996. Gil had just come from the Minneapolis band, The Whitinos.
In the spring of 1997, Blue Bonnet Plague's drummer left the band and Dave asked Gil to fill the spot. They played together for a few months but the band broke up.
Dave and Gil decided to stick together and form a newband. Bassist John Villasana soon joined them and they began creating a unique San Antonio sound. In January 1998, they were invited to perform with Eddie & The Allniters at Red Hot & Blues. During their set the multi-talented guitarist, Ray Symczyk, asked to sit in and together they left a great impression on the first audience to see True Stories.
True Stories has utilized a number of guitarists including their friend Sinjin, Dee Lusk, Jim Bard, Jim Beach, Ernest Hernandez, Eric Hisaw, Eddie Polanco (now a full-time member), and Claude Morgan to play alongside Ray.
True Stories has played at a number of South Texas venues such as Casbeers, Taco Land, Salute', O'Neill's, Red Hot & Blues, Uncle Charley's, The Cove, Nelson City Dance Hall, Landa Station, Fum Duck's, Boomerang's, The Bayous Overlook Saloon, as well as the Poteet Strawberry Festival.
True Stories' imaginative blend of Texas roots music, folk, and rock brings together well thought out cover tunes and a slew of unique original songs. This blend has captured the hearts of many audiences at performances everywhere. They have had the privilege of being on the same billing with such great artists as The Blazers, Jon Dee Graham, Billy Bacon & The Forbidden Pigs, The Iguanas, Eddie & The Allniters, Los #3 Dinners, The Swindels, The Infidels, and The Hix.
